About Me

Hey! My name is Cameron and I’m a twenty-three year old hockey fan from New Hampshire. I fell in love with hockey when I was sixteen years old, and in the seven years since I have learned an incredible amount, both about the sport and about myself.

You might ask yourself why I’m hammering in the fact that I like hockey so much in my intro, where more useful information could be inserted instead. Good question, thanks for asking! The reason I’m foregrounding hockey is because that is the context within which this entire website was designed. Initially, I created Moving the Goalposts with the intention of having a place to put my various and numerous thoughts about the sport — a tiny little nest for a horrible and longwinded jock magpie who felt stifled by Twitter’s 240 character limit, if you will.

This blog began as a product of conquering years of imposter syndrome surrounding writing about hockey, but also because of a desire to share how hockey has both impacted me and taught me about myself. This is where I have since branched off some from my initial, ‘branding,’ (see, I know industry terms). Hockey has been with me through some deeply formative time periods in my life, and has, weirdly enough, helped me to learn more about myself. I find that really compelling, and because of that, find myself wanting to share those stories. Sometimes, though, I have things that I want to say that have absolutely nothing to do with hockey and while I do technically have a degree in professional bullshitting (we love the humanities in this household), I won’t waste your time or my own attempting to find a spiderweb thin connection between the story about an interesting leaf I found on the street and the Boston Bruins.

So! To sum everything up: I like hockey, a lot. I have liked it, for a while. Through hockey I have met some of my best friends and learned important things. I have interesting stories about some of those things. Sometimes I want to share those stories. Sometimes, even, I do analytics!! (Not well, please do not expect much in that realm, what I mean to say is I have read like one book and routinely stare at Micah’s heatmaps). I wanted a space to share my opinions about hockey and what I have learned about myself and the world through the lens of the sport prompted me to create my own small corner of the internet. I impulsively typed my debit card information into Bluehost and WordPress at a tiny cafe with overpriced iced coffee and birthed Moving the Goalposts like Zeus birthing Athena (which now that I’ve typed out feels like a very weird and self-important comparison to make but it stays for now – just know I paid roughly $7 for an iced latte that day and so I do hold within me the folly of man). Throughout the year of technically now owning a website that is entirely my own tiny horde of sundries, I realized I have a lot to say that falls outside the realm of hockey, and that because I am the king of my tiny internet island, I am allowed to put it here.

But I still have to credit hockey with getting me to this point.

In short, I hope to create unique content that is not only informative, but inviting and engaging to new, seasoned, and non-hockey fans alike
